Elm Works is a small practice in Bishopston designing extensions, loft conversions and refurbishments across Bristol. We build in timber wherever the project allows, partly because it suits our clients' budgets and partly because it is quicker and quieter on a terraced street. Fabric performance matters to us — insulation, airtightness, ventilation — but we treat it as ordinary good building rather than a selling point. Most of our clients are families staying put and improving what they already have. We are used to Bristol's steep sites, party walls and the practicalities of building at the end of a narrow lane.
