Common Ground is a Clapham practice with a particular interest in retrofit. Much of what we do looks, from the street, like an ordinary extension and refurbishment — but the work behind it is about making a leaky Victorian house comfortable: breathable insulation, better airtightness, sensible ventilation, and heating that suits the fabric rather than fighting it. We are careful not to oversell this. Retrofit is a series of small, unglamorous decisions, and the value comes from getting them in the right order. We work mainly in south London, usually with homeowners planning to stay in the house for a long time.
