Chase & Wold works on older buildings across Essex and into Suffolk, including a steady stream of listed houses and farm buildings. Repair comes before alteration in most of our projects: understanding how the building was made, what has failed, and what can be left alone. Where new work is needed we usually keep it clearly separate from the original, often as a light link or a plainly detailed addition. We prepare listed building consent applications ourselves and are used to conversations with conservation officers. We also design a small number of new houses in rural settings each year, which the practice enjoys.
