Broadwater is based in Leigh-on-Sea and works along the Essex coast and estuary. The light here is unusual and we design for it: generous glazing where it makes sense, deep reveals where it does not, and materials that can cope with salt air. Our work is split between substantial extensions to existing houses and a small number of new homes each year. We are interested in low-energy building without turning every project into an experiment — good insulation, sensible orientation, airtight construction. We work closely with local builders and are used to the planning constraints along this stretch of the coast.
