Alder & Field is a small Peckham practice working almost entirely on houses in south London. Most of our work begins with a Victorian terrace that has stopped suiting the people living in it: a dark back room, a narrow kitchen, a bedroom that never quite worked. We design rear extensions and whole-house renovations that open those plans up without stripping out the character that made the house worth buying. We tend to work in brick, timber and plaster rather than anything showy, and we stay involved through planning, building regulations and construction so decisions on site are made by someone who understands the drawings.
